Abstract

The waste problem in Tobimeita Village, Motui District, North Konawe Regency, has become a serious issue due to the lack of adequate temporary waste disposal sites (TPSS). This has led to residents dumping waste into rivers or burning it around their homes, potentially polluting the environment and harming health. This Field Learning Experience (PBL) activity aims to provide an innovative solution through the use of used drums as TPSS to increase community awareness and participation in environmentally-based waste management. The implementation method includes field observations, interviews using questionnaires to determine community attitudes towards waste management, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to determine priority problems and solutions, and the utilization of simple technology in the form of making and installing four TPSS units from used drums at strategic points in the village. The results of the activity show that this TPSS innovation is able to reduce waste accumulation, suppress illegal waste disposal practices, and create a cleaner and healthier environment. In conclusion, this activity not only produces physical facilities but also increases community awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness through a participatory approach. The recommendation for this activity is that the village government continue similar programs sustainably and integrate community-based waste management into village development planning as a form of commitment to maintaining environmental cleanliness and health.
