Abstract

Indonesia is a country with rich biodiversity, including various types of plants and marine materials with potential for health and traditional medicine. However, local communities' knowledge and utilization of these natural resource potentials remain limited. On the other hand, countries like Malaysia have long been developing nature-based traditional medicine more systematically. Therefore, efforts are needed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Indonesian communities in using natural materials for wound healing and medical therapy. This international community service aims to provide education on the utilization of natural materials and traditional medicines derived from land and sea for wound healing and medical therapy. The activity was carried out in Sumberbulu Village, Mojogedang District, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, involving collaboration between APDFI and Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Pulau Penang Malaysia. The service team consisted of three main lecturers and 92 APDFI member lecturers. The methods used included counseling, demonstrations, and interactive discussions. The material presented covered the identification of potential natural materials, simple processing techniques, and applications for wound healing and medical therapy. Participants consisted of the general public, health cadres, and small and medium enterprises in the field of traditional medicine. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test to measure knowledge improvement, as well as satisfaction surveys to assess program effectiveness. Results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of natural material utilization, with an average score increase of 35%. Participants also demonstrated the ability to identify at least five types of local medicinal plants and three types of marine materials with potential for treatment. The satisfaction survey showed that 90% of participants found the program very beneficial and applicable. This activity succeeded in increasing community awareness and skills in utilizing the potential of the surrounding nature for health, as well as strengthening international cooperation in the field of pharmacy and traditional medicine.
