Abstract

Education in Indonesia faces various problems which are influenced by economic factors, the learning environment, and the ability of teaching staff. One solution to improve the quality of education is through effective supervision of teachers. Supervision, which comes from the words "super" and "vision," functions as monitoring and coaching to increase the professionalism of educators. This article uses qualitative research methods with a literature study to understand the concept of supervision and the principles underlying it. Educational supervision is important to ensure the teaching and learning process goes according to plan, but often receives little attention. Supervision principles, such as scientific, democratic, cooperative, and constructive and creative, must be applied to achieve the goal of improving the quality of education. The implementation of supervision by the school principal towards teachers is very crucial in improving the quality of learning. By instilling the values of discipline, responsibility and integrity, school principals can help teachers develop their professionalism. The suggestions given include consistent implementation of supervision principles, training for school principals and supervisors, teacher involvement in the supervision process, regular monitoring, and creating a positive work environment. With these steps, it is hoped that the quality of education in Indonesia can improve significantly.
